The Woodland Classroom lies within 100 acres of ancient broadleaf woodland at Shining Cliff, near Ambergate, just north of Derby. Designed to give a comfortable indoor work space for up to 16 young people, the classroom provides a perfect location for a day of discovery in the great outdoors at any time of year. Whether groups are learning bushcraft skills,
studying the woodland, ponds and streams or enjoying activities such as environmental art and creative writing, the location allows environmental education to be fully interactive
With funding support from the John Weston Fund the building has been recently developed to provide a light, practical indoor space in which to work. Making use of an existing building and adding solar powered lighting means we have kept
the environmental impact to a minimum.
