Last Thursday saw 8 teams from across the City take part in the Year 5/6 City Sportshall Athletics Finals at Southglade Leisure Centre. All teams had worked hard in previous weeks which saw South Wilford, Old Basford, Nottingham Academy, Haydn, Robin Hood, Southglade, Miford and Welbeck, all qualifying through the heats to secure their place at the Final Event.
Once the first set of track results had been recorded, the results showed Old Basford in the lead after some fast runners and good change overs in the relay races.
All the field events were made up of each schools best athletes with some impressive javelin throws from South Wilford and Southglade Primary Schools.
The event was supported by learners from SR Education who managed and helped to co-ordinate each of the events smoothly, showing some great leadership skills.
After all the events had been completed and scores had been calculated, the results showed South Wilford were top of the leader board with 326 points making them the 2012 City Champions. They were followed by Old Basford with 292 points, in second and Haydn, 224 points, clinching the bronze medal. A great score from South Wilford girls who contributed a massive 182 points to their team total.
Congratulations to all involved for a great event!
