On Thursday 5th December, Southglade Leisure Centre played host to the Year 5/6 Sporthshall Athletics Competition.
The 6 teams competing in this event have qualified through from family heats to the semi-finals and then progressed to the City Finals. It was a great achievement from all schools to have progressed this far and there was some excellent athleticism, skill and technique on show.
This competition has seen the most improvement of standards over the past couple of years and really shows the dedication and practice schools are now putting into its teams to prepare their pupils for such events.
Over the last term, 26 schools entered 4 family festivals; this meant that over 500 pupils in the City took part in the Sportshall Athletics Competition. This then led to 2 semi-finals consisting of 12 teams before the final event of 6 teams and 120 pupils battled it out to be crowned City Champions 2013/14.
It was a very closely contended competition with many photo finishes taking place during the track races.
The winners of this City Finals will now progress through and represent Nottingham City at the County School Games Day at Nottingham University on 28th February 2014.
The results are as follows:
Old Basford 216points
Robin Hood 196 points
St Augustines 160 points
Whitemoor 152 points
Southwark 146
Milford 146
